Become an Egg Donor in Rhode Island

YOU CHOOSE THE DONOR, WE DO THE REST.

If you want to make a difference in someone’s life and help intended parents achieve their dream of building a family, donating your eggs is one of the most selfless acts of kindness you can do. Through donating eggs, you become an integral part of the intended parents’ journey while feeling empowered. However, you may not know where to start or may feel overwhelmed when doing research. Fortunately, you don’t have to find all the answers alone.

At Elevate Donors, our knowledgeable staff can answer all your questions about donating your eggs. Most of our team has been on their own assisted reproduction journey, so we provide an empathetic and compassionate approach to family building. With this perspective and transparent communication, you can make an informed decision if egg donation is right for you. This way, you can have an exciting and joyful experience while we handle every aspect of your journey.

What Are the Qualifications to Become an Egg Donor in Rhode Island?

While donating your eggs is a generous gift you can give to intended parents, you meet certain qualifications before you go through with the procedure. At Elevate Donors, we ensure our donors exceedall American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines, which include the following:

  • Between 20 and 30 years old
  • Has a healthy body mass index (BMI)
  • Mentally and physically healthy
  • Passes psychological exams
  • Good antral follicle count (AFC)
  • Comfortable with self-injections
  • Healthy family history
  • Non-smoker
  • Does not take ADD or ADHD medication
  • Does not discriminate against non-traditional families
  • Committed to the process and flexibility in making appointments

It can be challenging to know if you meet these qualifications on your own, so we require you to complete several questionnaires and work with a clinic who will run several tests to ensure you are a good candidate.  At Elevate we want all donors to have a positive experience while offering intended parents the gift of a lifetime.

What Does an Egg Donation Journey Look Like?

No two egg donation journeys are the same, so we consider your preferences and expectations when creating a plan for you. However, we typically take the following steps to ensure your experience goes smoothly:

Pre-Screening Questionnaire

Before your official screening, you will fill out a short online application that lets us know more about you and if you meet donor requirements. We will review your application and reach out to you to schedule a follow-up appointment if you qualify to donate your eggs.

Agency Vetting and Pre-Cycle Testing

If we accept your application, we will begin a much more in-depth medical questionnaire process, background checks, and other verification measures.  Pre-cycle testing may also occur, which may include an anti-mullerian hormone test, an antral follicle count, and/or genetic carrier screening panel.

Matching

The matching process can sometimes be instantaneous and other times can take a few months.  When intended parents choose a donor they may have a list of criteria they are trying to meet. When you become an Elevate donor you will let us know what type of egg donation arrangement you’d prefer: anonymous or known and we’ll work to match you accordingly. Once matched you will immediately undergo a psychological evaluation and genetic counseling session.

Clinical Evaluation

After matching, you will have an extensive medical evaluation handled by the intended parent’s IVF physician. This appointment usually takes 3 hours and includes a transvaginal ultrasound, blood work, urine samples, a full physical exam, and genetic carrier screening.

Preparation and Retrieval

After matching, you begin taking hormones, often via self-injection, that help your body produce multiple eggs in one cycle. Once the eggs have matured and your body is ready, we will work with the IVF to schedule the retrieval of the eggs in a procedure that involves an ultrasound probe that identifies the follicles and a needle that removes them into a suction device. Then, the eggs are immediately fertilized by the sperm source to create embryos, or they are frozen, depending on what the intended parents choose to do.
