If you are looking for a way you can give back to others, surrogacy is a great option. As a surrogate, you will be providing intended parents with the priceless gift of hope as you help them realize their dreams of parenthood by carrying and delivering their child. While surrogacy can be an incredible journey for the intended parents and surrogate mothers, it is not for everyone. That is why it is important you have the knowledge to grasp the full picture of what surrogacy will entail before you move forward with becoming a surrogate in Georgia.

Is Surrogacy the Right Fit for You?

Making the decision to become a surrogate is one that should not be taken lightly. There should be ample time and research put into ensuring that moving forward with this journey is truly what will be best for you and your life. While the decision to become a surrogate mother offers families who have been longing for a child the opportunity to realize their dreams of parenthood, you will need to be completely honest with yourself and understand whether you are truly prepared for all becoming a surrogate mother will entail.

The surrogacy journey requires a lot of time and may take up to a year of your full commitment. As a surrogate mother, the success of the journey will require your physical, mental, and emotional investment. While it can be easy to only think of the positives of surrogacy, you should also be prepared to make some sacrifices to your time, family, and career during the surrogacy journey.

It is also imperative that your own family is supportive of your decision. This is especially true of your life partner or spouse if you are married. Having spousal support is necessary for legal purposes because they must confirm that they have no parental rights to the intended parents’ child.

Do You Qualify to Become a Surrogate in Georgia?

Not just anyone can become a surrogate. Along with our agency, each state sets parameters that women interested in becoming surrogates must meet to move forward with the journey. This is to ensure that the women who carry and deliver children for intended parents are healthy and present the most viable chance of a successful pregnancy. The requirements that you must meet to become a surrogate mother in Georgia are as follows:

  • Surrogate mothers must be between the ages of 21 and 40 years old
  • Surrogate mothers in Georgia need to have a body mass index of 32 or lower
  • Surrogate mothers must have given birth to at least one child of their own
  • Surrogate mothers should be overall healthy and non-smokers
  • Surrogate mothers must be willing to help others create a family
  • Surrogate mothers should have had uncomplicated pregnancies and no more than 2 c-sections.

If you believe that you fit the criteria set forth by the state of Georgia to be eligible to become a surrogate mother, Elevate Baby is here to help you take the first step!

What Are the Types of Surrogacy?

There are two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. Traditional surrogacy is when the woman who will carry the child for the intended parents is permitted to have a biological link to the baby. Gestational surrogacy does not allow for the surrogate mother to have any biological link to the child. At Elevate Baby, we only work with gestational surrogates.

The reason that gestational surrogacy tends to be the only legal form of surrogacy in most states is due to the fact that having a biological link with the child, as is allowed with traditional surrogacy, can lead to legal complications down the line in regard to who has custody rights.
