Fitting Egg Donation into a Busy Schedule

At Elevate, we value the commitments our donors have made to help build families. We also value and understand the commitments you have made elsewhere.

That’s why we make donating with us easy and let you know exactly what you can expect every step of the way.

Our egg donors are students, employees, volunteers, professionals—some have started building families of their own already and some fill all of these roles at once. Although egg donation is a significant commitment, it can oftentimes still fit in even the busiest of schedules.

We appreciate our donors’ investment in the process and want you to know exactly how egg donation can fit into your already full life.

How Many Appointments Will There Be During the Egg Donation Process?

Before starting hormone medications, you will have a local appointment to establish your body’s baseline. One starting your injections, you will attend 6 to 7 monitoring appointments where your doctor will perform bloodwork and an ultrasound to track your body’s progress along the way.

Appointments are typically less than 30 minutes long and done early in the morning. You’ll be in and out and ready to move on with the rest of your day in no time.

What Can I Still Do After Starting Hormones?

You may think your whole life has to be put on hold once starting your hormone injections, but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

For the first 3 or 4 days of your injections, you will be home and simply keeping up with taking your medications. Donors typically have no problem continuing work, school, and keeping up with their normal responsibilities.

Love to workout? Most doctors agree that taking care of your body is an important part of the egg donation process and clear you for non-strenuous exercise through your donation cycle. Whether you enjoy long walks, biking, or a sweaty yoga session– you can rest assured your self-care is here to stay.

What About Travel and My Retrieval Trip?

Travel is typically required twice during your egg donation cycle.

First up is a quick trip to your intended parents’ clinic for a screening appointment. After attending your appointment and resting up in a hotel for the night, we fly you right back home the next morning. Particularly tight schedule and want to skip the overnight stay? Let us know and we can arrange a flight home even sooner.

Around day 3 or 4 of hormone injections, you will travel back out for your egg retrieval. Although retrieval dates will depend on your body’s response to hormones, most donors can expect to be out of town for one week.

Besides keeping up with taking your medications and an early monitoring appointment every other day, you will have lots of free time available to for you to do schoolwork, work remotely, or simply enjoy the city. Most donors feel great within 24 hours and can fly home the very next day.
